What is Divorce Mediation

Divorce mediation is a process where you and your spouse meet with a trained, neutral mediator to help you reach an agreement on the issues you and your spouse need to resolve to finalize your divorce.

Mediation is conducted over several one-hour mediation sessions. All of these sessions will include both parties and the mediator. The mediator will not engage with either party without the other being present. This is done to maintain neutrality.

Mediators don't make decisions or offer legal advice, but rather serve as facilitators to help spouses figure out what's best for their situation.

There is no getting around the fact that divorce is an emotional endeavor. The complex emotions that a person may experience when a marriage ends can be agonizing. This is why it’s imperative to have a mediator who is skilled at ‘bringing the temperature down’ to ensure that the process continues to move forward productively. The mediator’s focus is to reach the best solution for both parties.

Meet The Mediator

Hello, I’m Latasha and I have a passion for supporting people through difficult times in their lives. I’m honest, open-minded, down-to-earth, and compassionate. Furthermore, it will take honesty and open-mindedness on your part to successfully work through the mediation process. This process is a team effort where the best results come when both parties work together. I am confident that a peaceful resolution can be achieved.

I know that this is an extremely stressful time for you and your family, but you are not alone. The good news for you is that you have found someone who is willing to work hard to ensure that this process flows as smoothly as possible for both parties.

I see it as a way to dissolve a marriage on your own terms versus going to trial and having a judge decide what they believe is best for your situation. My goal is to make this difficult and often emotionally charged process easier for both parties. It’s also very important to me that both parties feel like they have been heard and are content with the results. Let’s begin this journey together!

Why Choose to Mediate Your Divorce?

Although judges often order divorcing couples to participate in mediation before going to trial, you have the option of mediating on your own. Mediating your divorce has a lot of advantages over the litigation process.

Cost- Mediation is a less stressful and a much less expensive alternative to litigation.

Settling the case- A skilled mediator can assist in settling all of the issues in the divorce.

Confidentiality- Mediation is confidential, with no public record of what goes on in your sessions.

Freedom- Mediation allows you to arrive at a resolution based on your own ideas of what is fair in your situation, rather than having a solution imposed upon you based on rigid and impersonal legal principles.

Control- You and your spouse control the process, not the court.

Communication- The mediation process encourages communication between you and your spouse, helping you avoid future conflicts.

Successful mediation makes the rest of your divorce easier because you've done all the hard work of hammering out the details in the mediation, you can file an "uncontested" divorce. Uncontested divorces are usually less expensive and faster than litigated divorces.

With an uncontested divorce, you'll save money on attorneys' fees and the costs of going to trial. Additionally, many courts accelerate uncontested cases because everything has been worked out in advance.

Is Mediation For me?

Do I need an Attorney If I chose Mediation?

No, attorneys are not required to engage in the mediation process. Some people chose to consult with a divorce attorney; however, many people choose not to involve attorneys until after the mediation is complete.

***Please note that either party can consult an attorney at any time during the process.
